Friday 8/28

What I learned about Robin:

Robin has had a lot of changes in her life in the last couple of years. Her paddle represents kayaking, which she started doing two years ago. For her, kayaking is a metaphor for life. She likes to live in the place where fear meets fun, which in kayaking is the whitewater. Her paddle is her "steerage" with which she gets her and her boat where she wants to be and she seems just as in charge of her own life. Learning kayaking is just one example of that. She has a very positive attitude toward change.

My object:
The object that says a lot about me is my water bottle. It is a rather plain stainless steel bottle, but it does it's job well and is easy to clean and to drink from. I am not the frilly, lacy sort and my water bottle reflects this. I usually take it everywhere with me, and sometimes keep more than one around. I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and keeping my water bottle with me makes this possible. It also shows that I am concerned about our environment. I am the child of an avid recycler and feel guilty if I throw away something that can be reused or recycled, but my water bottle allows me to take that one step further and avoid all those plastic bottles in the first place. It also shows that I like to be prepared when I head out into the world and that I plan ahead to have what I will need for the journey.

Friday questions:
1. I learned that I have to always be thinking of two things as a teacher--the class as a whole and the individual students within that class. Well, actually I really knew that, but what I really found new was to think about how do you know that each individual student is "getting it."
2. I don't have any questions right now.
3. I am anxious about classroom management and handling behavior problems in the classroom.
4. I am excited to meet my students and get to know them!
