9/23 Language

I observed some great language today that reminded me of the Power of Words article and made me think about how word choice affects students. This teacher said "let's check for accuracy" and "is your answer accurate" instead of is your answer right or wrong. This gave me, and I suspect the kids, a different mindset about what and how they were doing in math. When kids were explaining their thinking in front of the class she referred to them as "Teacher Peter" or "Teacher Susan" and this set a different tone and expectation for both the presenter and the rest of the students.
